Original Post: Hi Ronadro,
The good news is that I've been playing my best golf in a long time this season and had my best score of the year last weekend, a 2 under par 70... yeehaa!
The bad news is that there appears to be a bug in the Handicap calculation as the HCI does not appear to allow negative values, i.e. it should be around -0.8 put is displaying 0.0. Also for some reason today the delete score feature is not working, getting 404 error.
Thanks again for providing this site, it's getting better every year and the good karma gleaned will surely lead to more life birdies for you. :-)

As promised, I researched the negative HCI idea. As I expected, you're 100% correct, and the site now allows it and handles it. I've recalculated handicaps for everyone, so there's nothing for you to do.
Thanks for the heads up (and also the kinds words)!

Thanks Ronadro,
To help out I've done a little digging and found this page which gives a more or less complete explanation of the USGA formula http://usfijiopengolfchampionship.com/usgahandicapformula.aspx. The USGA site has lots of info but it is kind of all over the place so thought this was a better summary. It looks like negative differentials are used in order to come up with potentially "plus" handicaps for Scratch golfers. The "plus" term is becuase a plus handicapper would have to add his/her handicap index to the gross to come up with net. Hope this helps.

Ronadro replied on Aug 13, 2008 at 02:55pm:
Congrats on the 70!
I verified the Delete bug...should be easy to fix. As far as the -0.8, I'm pretty sure the USGA doesn't recognize negative handicaps, and they would go with a 0.0 as well. I'll check into it though.
Thanks,
Ron

Original Post: How about we have something where you can be "friends" with your buddies? Also where you can click on their name and check out their recent scores? Be nice to brag to golf pals |
Ronadro replied on Apr 06, 2008 at 05:28pm:
djcooper3,
What you're asking for is Groups, which we already have. If you have other ideas for improving the Groups section, by all means send those to me and I'll try to get it done for you!
Thanks!

Original Post: Hi Ron,
Spring is coming.... ;)
How about adding a filter to filter just 9 hole and just 18 hole rounds. Doing a great job! |

Ron,
Just checked it out, it's perfect! Thanks.

Ronadro replied on Jan 26, 2008 at 11:31am:
Adding an additional filter should be fairly easy, but in the meantime, to separate 9-hole scores, you can pick any filter from the right side, then sort by score and the 9-hole scores will be at the top.
Thanks for the idea!

Original Post: ManRon,
It scares me a little to see my password in my account details. Call me paranoid ... go ahead, I'll wait . . .
Maybe you can replace the actual password with a link that sends an email to me with my password in it?!
By the way, awesome job with the site and for keeping it running. |
Ronadro replied on Jan 18, 2008 at 10:18am:
The password is not displayed on the My Account page, but a password is indeed displayed on the Clubs pages, if you are the owner of the club. Since clubs are not intended to be secure and basically function as a semi-private group of friends, there is no security threat.
I, however, very much appreciate the feedback!

Original Post: Hi Ron,
Another suggestion:
Is it possible to be able to sort rounds "best to worst" taking into consideration the score and the slope rating? Basically extending the current 9 and 18 best rounds listed on Dashboard to go much deeper than just one round?
Is there some sort of formula to get a ranking number for the round using the score for that round and the course slope rating (degree of difficulty)?

Ronadro replied on Nov 11, 2007 at 07:02pm:
I completed the last 10% of sorting and it should all be good to go. Enjoy!

Just noticed the sorting feature before I came back here to the messabge board. It's great but when I click on "View by date" and then on "date played" only the first page is sorted correctly, the next pages are still all jumbled up...I've tried resorting on page 2 but still not good. Looks like a slight bug in an otherwise awesome feature, espcially the sort by score!!!! Thanks Ron. Happy Halloween :)

Ronadro replied on Oct 24, 2007 at 10:25am:
I just implemented a quick version of sorting on the round list page. It's not 100% perfect, but it's about 95% there. You can now sort on Date, Score, and HCI, in both ascending and descending order.
Let me know what you think...I love feedback!

Original Post: Hi Ron,
How about a "Historic Low" for total Handicap Index? It could go right next to the tHCI and will show the lowest point reached.
So we would "current" and "Historic low"
Keep in mind the issue where someone puts in a incorrect low score and goes back and deletes or changes it. So the historic low would have to be able to sniff out the point a person had the lowest tHCI |
Ronadro replied on Sep 25, 2007 at 11:42pm:
Sorry for the delayed response, but I'm not sure how much value this would add to know how good you used to be, but as long as you don't have too many rounds to scroll through, you can determine the lowest HCI in your history on a manual basis.
I do promise to give this some though to see how to fit it in.
Thanks!
Ron.

Am I doing something wrong?

Ronadro replied on Aug 15, 2007 at 09:08am:
valleygolfer,
I will look into it and email you directly, but the most likely cause of this is that the course you played does not have the par entered for each hole on the tee you played. Pars, birdies, etc. are all auto-calculated, so without that information for the course, it can't be tallied.
Thanks,
Ron.

Original Post: Good Afternoon,
As i was looking at my rounds by date, I was wondering if it is possible to display more than 15 per screen. I would love to be able to click "view last 365 days" and be able to see them on on page.
Similarly, is it possible to do a "see last 20 rounds" or see last 10 rounds?
Finally, a suggestion for the long-term to-do list is a graph of your scores. I would love to be able to see my scores plotted (actually the HCI), along with puts/pars/etc. Currently I also keep an Excel spreadsheet with scores to do this, but it would be cool to put it in one place.
Cheers, and keep up the great work.
Thanks! |
Ronadro replied on Sep 25, 2007 at 11:44pm:
I like the idea of having a graph. I'll definitely add that to the "to-do" list.
